ACCIONA has been awarded the contract to construct the new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) in Almoradí, Alicante, by the Water Sanitation Entity of the Valencian Community.
ACCIONA has a history of significant contributions to the water infrastructure of the province, having previously constructed the Torrevieja desalination plant, which boasts a production capacity of 240,000 m³ per day.
Project Scope
The new WWTP, situated in the northeastern part of Almoradí, will serve a population of 41,400 residents. It will combine the capacities of the existing Almoradí WWTP and the smaller El Saladar WWTP, increasing their combined water treatment capacity to 6,000m³ per day (1.19m³ per year).
The new plant will have an area of 55,000m², with provisions for future expansions, allowing it to process up to 12,000m³ per day. The project encompasses the renovation and centralization of the municipal water collectors and pumping stations network.
Wastewater treatment plant – technical details
The treated water quality will be upgraded to comply with EU legislation and the new hydrological plan for the Segura Basin. The company will also implement measures to combat the odours generated by the treatment plant, thereby reducing its environmental impact.
Additionally, to enhance energy efficiency, a photovoltaic plant will be installed to power the WWTP.
Contract Sum
The contract’s estimated value is €19 million and marks ACCIONA’s first sanitation venture in the Vega Baja del Segura area. Construction is set to commence after the European summer.
