New Bundaberg Hospital - Project Details

The newly designated hospital site is situated approximately five kilometers to the south of Bundaberg’s central business district and at a distance of roughly 350 kilometres north of Brisbane.

The new Bundaberg Hospital will:

  • Expand existing state capacity in 121 beds and increase in treatment areas
  • Expand emergency department
  • Improved acute, medical, surgical, and mental health services
  • Enhanced clinical support services

The augmented capacity and capability will decrease waiting periods and extend access to care near individuals’ residences.

The facilities, amenities, and equipment are designed to be contemporary and culturally fitting, ensuring improved care delivery and promoting patient well-being. Furthermore, the design incorporates a well-defined strategy for potential expansion should the need arise.

New Bundaberg Hospital - CPB as the Managing Contractor

CPB Contractors will lead the design development, which includes a new six-storey hospital building dedicated to acute, medical, surgical, and mental health services.

The new hospital also includes provisions for emergency care, clinical support services, and the associated infrastructure.

Subsequently, CPB Contractors might proceed to oversee the project’s construction phase.

What is a Managing Contractor Agreement?

This managing contracting framework facilitates the integration of the valuable contractor’s insights into the design development phase and encourages cooperation with the project’s designated design consultants.

The approach helps Principals (Owners) to de-risk the project by leveraging the expertise of a seasoned contractor at the project’s outset.

This approach is typically used in complex projects, such as hospitals, where a number of different stakeholders are involved in the design development stage.

An experienced managing contractor will help to identify issues at early stages and address problems in the project early stages rather than during construction, saving money and time for the client.

New Bundaberg Hospital - Project Timelines

Early and enabling works are underway for the upcoming hospital and the new hospital access was completed in March 2023.

CPB has been appointed as the Managing Contractor and will start coordinating design tasks throughout 2023, with construction works anticipated to start between late 2023 and early 2023.

As per current projections, the new Bundaberg Hospital is anticipated to reach completion during the latter part of 2027.
