Bechtel Awards First Contracts for the First Nuclear Plant in Poland

Bechtel is in charge of designing and constructing Home (ppej.pl)at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania. With Westinghouse Electric Company, Bechtel will deliver three AP1000® reactors for Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, marking a significant milestone in Poland’s nuclear energy endeavours.

This week, the company announced another milestone in the project by procuring from local suppliers three significant packages to proceed with the construction phase, including engineering, construction, environmental and approval advice, and translation services.

Poland's First Nuclear Plant - Project Details

In September 2023, Westinghouse Electric Company, Bechtel, and Polish utility Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe signed the Engineering Services Contract for Poland’s inaugural nuclear power plant at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino site in Pomerania (further details in the video below).

The contract encompasses finalizing a site-specific design for three Westinghouse AP1000® nuclear islands based on the most advanced Generation III+ nuclear reactor available today.

It also includes Turbine Island and Balance of Plant design work and support for Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe to prepare license application materials, training programs, and operations and maintenance procedures. Poland’s first AP1000® nuclear reactor is expected to achieve commercial operation in 2033.

The First subcontracts awarded by Bechtel for the First Nuclear Plant in Poland

To enhance local involvement and support the community, Bechtel has awarded its initial procurement contracts to construct Poland’s inaugural nuclear power plant. The focus is on engaging local suppliers to establish lasting partnerships. The selected companies, spanning various industries, include:

Energoprojekt – Katowice S.A.

One of the largest design and engineering companies in Europe. EPK will provide services for codes and standards, environmental permitting strategy, and will be offered opportunities to support permitting documentation.

Prochem SA

A Poland-based company involved in engineering, construction, and environmental sectors. Prochem will have opportunities to support permitting documentation.

Summa Linguae Technologies S.A.

Specializing in technology-enabled solutions for global companies with multilingual data challenges. Summa Linguae S.A. will provide translation services.

Bechtel Awards First Contracts for the First Nuclear Plant in Poland
In partnership with Westinghouse Electric Company, Bechtel will deliver three AP1000® reactors for Polskie Elektrownie Jądrowe, the Polish stated-owned company in charge of preparing the investment process and acting as the investor in the construction project of the first nuclear power plant in Poland.

The First Contracts for the First Nuclear Plant in Poland – Bechtel Leadership Comments
