Skanska, in a JV with Halmar International LLC, has recently entered into an agreement with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for the development of the John F. Kennedy International Airport Central Terminal Area Roadways, Utilities, and Ground Transportation Center project located in Queens, New York, USA.
The total contract sum is approximately USD 868 million (circa SEK 9.1 billion), and according to Skanka press release will be included in order bookings of its American branch (Skanka US).
The D&C (Design and Construct) contract includes the design and construction of an efficient on-airport transportation network, along with enabling works related to utility relocations and upgrades.
Aiming to improve connectivity and accessibility for users, particularly in relation to the neighboring terminals, this development will allow the creation of a contemporary Ground Transportation Center, featuring a multi-level parking facility with a capacity of 1,950 vehicles.
This parking facility will be equipped with electric vehicle charging stations and a visually appealing timber façade that aligns with eco-conscious principles (the car-parking sketch is detailed above).
Additionally, the project involves the construction of a 400-foot-long elevated pedestrian bridge, which will be designed to accommodate food trucks.
Other sustainable features include a rainwater harvesting system for landscape irrigation, provisions for future implementation of a green roof, and energy-efficient measures to support solar panel installations.
The project is expected to be completed by December 2027.
