ACCIONA Energía has commenced the construction of Forty Mile, a 280MW wind project situated in the County of Forty Mile No. 8, Alberta, Canada. The project will be delivered on behalf of Renewable Energy Systems Canada, one of the largest renewable energy developers in the world.
About Forty Mile Project
RES has received approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to proceed with the development, construction, and operation of the Forty Mile Wind Power Project (“Forty Mile Project”).
It includes the construction of a 400 MW wind energy generation plant situated approximately 6 kilometres (km) east of Bow Island in The County of Forty Mile No. 8, Alberta.
Forty Mile – Acciona Energia Contracted Scope
Comprising 49 Nordex turbines, Forty Mile marks ACCIONA Energía’s largest wind venture in North America, with potential expansion to 400MW in its second phase.
During the peak construction phase, the project is expected to generate up to 250 jobs and 25 permanent positions once operational.
ACCIONA Energía and RES will collaborate closely with local stakeholders, including government agencies and landowners, to ensure a seamless development process and maximize the project’s positive impact on the community.
Acciona Energia’s Strategy in North America
Underpinning ACCIONA Energía’s commitment to social responsibility, the project is part of the company’s Social Impact Management program, reinvesting a portion of its annual revenue to support education, wellness, and environmental stewardship initiatives in the communities where it operates.
With four wind farms already in operation, totalling over 180MW of wind capacity in Canada, the construction of Forty Mile furthers ACCIONA Energía’s presence in North America, highlighting its dedication to growth and strategic geographical diversification.
