Bechtel has received Full Notice to Proceed (FNTP) from Doral Renewables to begin full-scale construction on three major phases of the Mammoth Solar project in Indiana. Under a major EPC Contract, Bechtel will lead the development of this large-scale solar farm, managing engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning activities
The expansion—comprising Mammoth South, Mammoth Central I, and Mammoth Central II—will add 900 megawatts (AC) of capacity to the grid. These new phases are part of the broader 1.3 gigawatt (GW) Mammoth Solar development, one of the largest utility-scale solar initiatives in the United States.
Mammoth Solar - Project Details
The Mammoth Solar project is being developed by Doral Renewables, a Philadelphia-based renewable energy company with a national footprint. The full 1.3 GW facility spans approximately 13,000 acres across Starke and Pulaski Counties in northern Indiana and is being delivered in multiple phases to progressively expand clean energy output in the Midwest (more details on the video below by Doral Renewables).
The project began with Mammoth North, which executed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with AEP Energy in May 2021 and reached financial close in June 2022. Construction advanced swiftly, and Mammoth North achieved commercial operations in October 2024. It now generates approximately 400 MW of clean energy—enough to power around 75,000 households annually.
Building on this milestone, Bechtel will now deliver the next three phases. Once complete, Mammoth South, Mammoth Central I, and Mammoth Central II will collectively increase Indiana’s solar generation capacity by more than 20%.
The project also incorporates agrivoltaic practices, integrating livestock grazing and crop cultivation around solar arrays. This approach supports local agriculture, allowing landowners to continue farming while maximizing land productivity and renewable energy output.
Bechtel as the EPC Contractor for Mammoth Solar Expansion
Bechtel has been selected as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for Mammoth South, Mammoth Central I, and Mammoth Central II—three new phases that will add 900 MW (AC) of solar capacity.
Bechtel’s scope includes engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and overall project management. This involves installing around two million solar modules—about half expected to be U.S.-made—along with inverters, power cables, and substations.
With a track record in delivering large-scale renewable energy projects, such as the Oriana Solar Farm in Texas, Bechtel is also leveraging its digital project delivery tools and automation technologies to improve execution speed, quality, and efficiency across all phases.

Local Partnerships and Workforce Development
At peak construction, the Mammoth Solar expansion is expected to support over 1,200 jobs, with at least 15% allocated to apprenticeships aimed at training the next generation of skilled craft professionals. Bechtel is working closely with local suppliers, subcontractors, and building trades to ensure broad regional participation and long-term economic benefit for the surrounding communities.
“Bechtel is proud to partner with Doral to deliver one of the nation’s largest solar projects,” said Scott Austin, General Manager of Renewables & Clean Power at Bechtel. “A project of this scale relies on strong collaboration with local trades to access the skilled workforce needed. We’re creating high-quality jobs, supporting local talent, and being a reliable partner as we help deliver Mammoth Solar and expand the supply of clean, reliable power.”
Amit Nadkarni, SVP of Project & Asset Management at Doral Renewables, added: “Thanks to the meticulous planning and collaboration over the past several months, we’re now ready to move confidently into construction. We’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and environmental care, while also supporting the community through meaningful local workforce participation and broader economic impact.”
