Infrastructure Ontario selected EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH) as the preferred proponent for designing, constructing and financing the state-of-the-art 1Door4Care: CHEO (Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario) Integrated Treatment Centre in Ottawa.

This transformative project aims to consolidate seven scattered care facilities in Ottawa into a purpose-built, cutting-edge facility situated on CHEO’s main Smyth Road campus.

The Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is a leader of excellence in pediatric care, pioneering research, and nurturing education.

Situated in Ottawa, CHEO encompasses a comprehensive spectrum of vital healthcare components, including a hospital, a children’s treatment centre, a dedicated autism program, a mental health agency, an educational institution, and a revered research institute, complete with satellite services strategically located across Eastern Ontario.

The visionary 1Door4Care: CHEO Integrated Treatment Centre will merge seven distinct care facilities dispersed across Ottawa into a unique bespoke-built site on CHEO’s main Smyth Road campus.

This transformative initiative will enable a series of upgrades and enhancements to CHEO, including:

  • A versatile clinic area accommodating diverse needs;
  • A physiotherapy rehabilitation gym;
  • An expanded array of mental health clinics,
  • Bespoke designed indoor and outdoor spaces to allow seamless integration between education and therapy areas;
  • Secure rooms tailored for children and youth grappling with complex emotional needs;
  • State-of-the-art treatment chambers catering to behavioural requirements,
  •  Pioneering virtual care technologies, a tangible link connecting the new facility to the main campus building,

Following the shortlist of 3 candidates for the Request For Proposal (RFP) phase in November 2022,  IO and CHEO reached their final decision to select EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare (EDIH) consortium as the preferred bidder.

In the imminent weeks, the project is expected to reach a financial close, and negotiations between IO, CHEO, and EDIH are ongoing to finalise contractual agreements. 

The specific contract cost will only be publicly disclosed post-financial closure, paving the way for the imminent commencement of construction. An overview of project timelines is below: 

  • Request for Qualifications (RFQ): March 2022
  • Shortlist of Tenderers (3 Tenderers): August 2022
  • Request for Proposal (RFP): November 2022
  • Preferred Tenderer Announcement: August 2023

  • Construction Commence: To Be Confirmed (shortly after financial close)
