Leighton Asia, a subsidiary of CIMIC Group, has been chosen by the Philippines Department of Transportation to deliver one of the sections of the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) – South Commuter Railway Project (SCRP).

Leighton Asia has joined forces with First Balfour, a local contractor, to deliver the S-03A construction package (CP S-03A). The Joint-Venture also successfully secured the adjoining package S-03B earlier this year.

Aiming to alleviate road congestion around Manila, The scope of work for Contract Package S-03B (CP S-03B) includes civil engineering, tunnel, and building works for approximately 6.1 kilometres of the railway, being 4.7 kilometres of the underground railway and 1.4 kilometres of at-grade railway.

The scope of work also includes:

  • Constructing the FTI Station.
  • Tunnelling works to connect to the Metro Manila Subway Project Senate Station.
  • Mechanical, electrical, façade.
  • Other ancillary works.

The contract will generate circa AUD 299M for Leighton Asia, strengthening its local position.

Both packages (CP S-03A and CP S-03B) are only a section of the nearly 56km SCRP railway corridor under development. Funded by the Asia Development Bank, the SCRP will connect the Clark International Airport in Pampanga to Calamba, located in Manilla’s metropolitan region.

Leighton Asia Managing Director Brad Davey said:

We are thrilled to extend our partnership with our valued client and partner at SCRP. Leighton Asia has extensive experience in rail, leveraging both our international expertise and local knowledge in the Philippines, where we have operated for more than two decades. We are honoured by the award of these packages and the recognition of our teams’ ability to safely deliver the works.”
