Deutschlandnetz Program - About it
To address the need for medium and long-distance electric vehicle (EV) journeys, the German federal government released a tender for a nationwide fast-charging network known as the “Deutschlandnetz” (Germany Network).
This network aims to have 1,000 charging locations across Germany (similar to the sketch shown in the picture below) with circa 9,000 charging points. The goal is to ensure EV drivers can access a fast-charging point within a few minutes and quickly recharge their vehicles.
Last week, the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) successfully awarded the contracts for part of the national EV fast-charging network program to several bidders, including:
- Allego GmbH
- BayWa Mobility Solutions GmbH
- E.ON Drive Infrastructure GmbH
- Eviny Elektrifisering AS
- Fastned Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG
- EWE Go HOCHTIEF Ladepartner GmbH & Co. KG (This Consortium)
- Mer Germany GmbH
- Pfalzwerke AG
- Total Energies Marketing Deutschland GmbH
- Via Deutschlandnetz (VINCI Concessions Deutschland GmbH)
These companies and consortiums will significantly expand the fast-charging infrastructure for EVs throughout Germany, making long-distance travel more convenient and accessible for electric vehicle users.
Deutschlandnetz Program - Hochtief and EWE Go Consortium
The consortium composed of infrastructure group HOCHTIEF and mobility company EWE Go, a subsidiary of EWE energy and telecommunications service provider, successfully secured two lots as part of the Deutschlandnetz fast-charging network project.
Each of these lots consists of over 400 charging points strategically located in various urban and rural areas, both large and small cities. The stations are designed to have 4 to 16 fast-charging points each and will be developed and operated by the consortium on a long-term basis.
The JV will finance, plan, construct, and operate (akin to a PPP Contract) these charging points, which are located in North Rhine-Westphalia, Lower Saxony, Bremen and Hamburg, as well as in parts of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Schleswig-Holstein. Planning efforts are set to start immediately to allow the early deployment of the charging locations.
