This week, Fluor Corporation has announced a five-year extension, through 2028, of its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The contract is held by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC, a special-purpose entity owned by Fluor.
Fluor Marine Propulsion – Original Contract and Extension
The contract with Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC, initially awarded in 2018, consisted of a five-year base performance period with a five-year option. The scope of work encompasses the management and operation of the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL), with primary facilities located in New York, Pennsylvania, and Idaho.
The contract primarily supports the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, which is a collaborative effort involving the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and the Department of the Navy.
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory plays a crucial role in advancing the technology and ensuring the safety and reliability of naval nuclear propulsion systems. These systems are used in submarines and aircraft carriers, forming the backbone of the U.S. Navy’s fleet.
The laboratory’s primary focus includes the research, development, testing, and maintenance of these advanced propulsion systems.Â
