HOCHTIEF, in collaboration with Rubner Holzbau, has been awarded a contract to expand Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences as part of Bavaria’s high-tech agenda. Commissioned by the Free State of Bavaria, represented by the Rosenheim State Building Authority, the project will include a technology park featuring laboratory and machinery facilities, along with a student center housing a digital learning hub and student services.
A Center for Education and Innovation
With a total investment of nearly EUR 190 million, the project also includes extensive design and planning services. The development will be executed entirely with timber-based construction, with HOCHTIEF’s contract share amounting to approximately EUR 140 million and construction is set to commence this year.
Rosenheim Technical University of Applied Sciences plays a key role in fostering talent across southeastern Upper Bavaria. Offering programs in engineering, business, design, and health, the institution is recognized as one of Europe’s leading centers for wood industry education. The expansion will accommodate around 1,800 students, further strengthening the university’s educational offerings and research capabilities.
Commitment to Sustainability and Energy Efficiency
Sustainability is at the core of this project, aligning with the Free State of Bavaria’s environmental objectives. The new buildings are designed to meet the “Gold Standard” certification under the Sustainable Building Rating System (BNB).
Key aspects of the project include optimizing energy efficiency, enhancing operational flexibility, and ensuring accessibility. These elements will be integrated throughout the planning and execution phases to support Bavaria’s broader climate goals.
HOCHTIEF’s Expertise in University Construction
HOCHTIEF, along with its U.S. subsidiary Turner, has extensive experience in university construction projects. Notable developments include projects in Bochum, Germany, as well as at Berkeley and Harvard in the United States.Â
Currently, HOCHTIEF is building the new university campus for police and public administration (HSPV) in Herne, Germany. Turner has also delivered multiple timber-based buildings, such as a five-story solid wood office structure in Nashville, Tennessee. This initiative marks HOCHTIEF’s first all-timber construction project in Germany, further emphasizing its commitment to sustainable building practices.
