Lane, the U.S. subsidiary of Webuild, has been awarded a $582 million contract to deliver Moving I-4 Forward Project 2 in Central Florida, a major highway package commissioned by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
The award covers a key section of Interstate 4 at the State Road 429 interchange and forms part of FDOT’s wider Moving Florida Forward initiative. For transport contractors and public-sector clients, it is a material contract award tied to accelerated delivery on one of the state’s most important and congested corridors.
Florida’s Moving I-4 Forward Project 2 Background
According to FDOT project information, Project 2 covers improvements to I-4 from east of County Road 532 to west of World Drive in Osceola County, along with upgrades to the State Road 429 interchange.
The planned works include four general-use lanes and two express lanes in each direction, as well as new direct connectors between I-4 and SR 429 to reduce weaving movements and improve traffic flow. FDOT’s project material also notes that Old Lake Wilson Road will be widened from two to four lanes with sidewalks and bicycle lanes, while a second bridge will be built to support the new configuration.
This is an important detail because it shows the package is not just a standard widening job. It combines interchange reconfiguration, local-road improvements, active-transport elements, and long-term corridor planning within a live transport environment.
Contract Details and Lane's relationship with FDOT
Lane said the contract value is $582 million and covers the design and construction of about 5 kilometres of upgraded I-4 infrastructure at one of the corridor’s critical nodes.
From a delivery perspective, this type of design and construct (or design and build) approach is commonly used for major highway packages because it allows design development, staging, traffic management, and construction planning to be integrated early. On live urban corridors, that can support faster delivery, although it also transfers greater interface and sequencing responsibility to the contractor.
Lane also said the new configuration will include direct connections intended to streamline traffic transitions between Interstate 4 and State Road 429. In addition, the I-4 median is being prepared to accommodate a potential future rail corridor, which adds a longer-term strategic dimension to the project.
For Lane, the award also deepens an existing footprint on the I-4 corridor. It builds on previously reported work such as the I-4 and Apopka-Vineland Road interchange revamp and reinforces the group’s role in large-scale U.S. road programs.
